It is very common in The Salvation Army for a husband and wife team to be jointly appointed as the leaders of a congregation. At Hillcrest Community church we are blessed to have Lieutenant Darren and Captain Danette Woods as our Officers (Pastors).
Darren & Danette came to Hillcrest in July 2011, after having served together as the Officers (Pastors) of Charlottetown Citadel in Newfoundland.
Both of them are very busy people. Their ministries include the regular 'Pastor-type' activities - such as leading Sunday worship services or doing Bible studies & prayer meetings. However their ministries also include music activities, children & youth activities, ladies groups, mens groups, social services and community services
Danette is native to Newfoundland. She was born in Grand Falls-Windsor, and is a 4th generation Salvationist.
Danette has also lived in Scarborough Ontario, Winnipeg Manitoba and in St. John`s Newfoundland.
She moved to Winnipeg Manitoba in September 2007 where she entered The Salvation Army`s College For Officer Training.
She studied for 2 years before being commissioned to the rank of Lieutenant in June 2009.
Danette`s passion is for youth ministry, women`s ministry and pastoral care.
Darren is a 5th generation Salvationist. Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, he has been living in Canada for over 6 years now.
He lived in Winnipeg Manitoba for 2 years where he studied at Booth University College and also at The Salvation Army`s College For Officer Training.
In January 2010 he was appointed to the London Citadel Corps (Church) in Ontario. In September 2010 he went to Charlottetown, Newfoundland after his marriage to Danette
He was commissioned to the rank of Lieutenant in June 2011 and His passion is for preaching, evangelism and music ministry.
Darragh is Darren & Danette's oldest child. She was born right here in London, Ontario in October 2011
Bramwell (or Bram for short) is the newest addition to their family. He was also born in London in September 2014
Darragh & Bram are both adored (and spoiled) by everyone at Hillcrest Community Church.
